Five years after Hurricane Maria devastated Puerto Rico, the Caribbean island was once again hammered by a natural disaster. Hurricane Fiona has left millions without power, with flash floods displacing countless communities. Here’s how to help from afar.
PRxPR
Founded by Puerto Rican business leaders, PRxPR typically funds short- and long-term humanitarian projects on the island. The group opened its Relief and Rebuild Fund to collect donations specifically for those affected by Fiona.
Puerto Rico Community Foundation
This 501(c)(3) assists communities and programs that bolster Puerto Rico’s education, housing, energy, water, health, and arts sectors. Now it’s launched a special fund for recovery efforts after Fiona.
Brigada Solidaria del Oeste
Roughly translated, Solidarity Brigade from the West formed in response to the previous hurricane, Maria. Now in the wake of Fiona, BSO has activated its mutual support network. They’re in need of water purification tablets, solar lamps, water filters, and first aid kits in addition to monetary donations.
GlobalGiving
The nonprofit crowdfunding platform is accepting a Fiona-specific relief fund with a target of $1 million to pay for immediate disaster relief in the form of food, medical supplies, and shelter, as well as long-term rebuilding efforts.
Taller Salud
Diapers, nonperishable food, toiletries, drinkable water. Grassroots feminist organization Taller Salud has mobilized its team to address the immediate humanitarian needs on the ground.
Hispanic Federation
This DC-based nonprofit has a network of more than 100 community partners and is collecting donations to distribute for relief efforts.

Normally this community kitchen strives to fight hunger and food insecurity. Now it’s collecting donations as it switches into disaster aid mode.
